Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

Crude prices rose 4% last week as progress in trade talks between the U.S. and China raised economic optimism. An Iranian tanker explosion off the coast of Saudi Arabia raised concerns over further tensions in the region. Natural gas prices fell 6% last week, marking a fourth consecutive weekly decline. Inventories are expected to rise above typical levels before the start of winter bolstered by strong production.
