Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

WTI and Brent jumped last week on a combination of domestic and geopolitical news. The EIA reported net withdrawals for both total US stocks and stocks at Cushing, Oklahoma. On the international front, the Islamic militant group known as ISIS captured two large cities, Mosul and Tikrit, in northern Iraq. Natural gas prices fell each day but Thursday last week on speculation that milder weather will limit cooling demand and help fuel inventory gains. Thursday saw the largest increase in the prompt month contract in almost four months when the EIA reported a gain that was lower than expected.
