Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

WTI crude slid for a second week, with the prompt month contract retreating to an eight-month low on Thursday before rebounding slightly on Friday. High domestic production rates, coupled with declining demand for crude products, have led to high stock levels and declining prices. Natural gas prices plummeted midweek on forecasts of warmer weather after the polar vortex caused record low temperatures earlier in the week. Prices are expected to rise this week before the EIA’s storage report on Thursday, which could reveal a record-breaking withdrawal.
