Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

Crude oil moved up for a third consecutive week for the near-term months. Positive growth in US GDP over the second half of 2013, along with an increase in demand for crude products, kept prices boosted. Furthermore, speculation that the Federal Reserve would extend bond purchases was also bullish for crude. Natural gas prices were extremely volatile this week. Fundamental factors, including weather forecasts and inventory concerns, combined with financial factors to push prices up before the expiration of the February 2014 contract.
