by Michelle Tham, Director of Analytics

Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

Crude oil prices jumped last week, with prices trickling up throughout the week and ending with a surge on Friday. Stockpiles of distillate fell as colder-than-normal weather increased demand for heating oil, and a favorable jobs report from the Labor Department boosted equities andcommodities on Friday. Natural gas prices fluctuated and then declined until settling on Friday at the lowest price since January 23rd. Price volatility followed forecasts of imminently colder than average weather followed by emerging forecasts of a warm front through much of the continental United States starting next week.
