Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

Crude oil rose for the fifth week in a row. Similar to the previous week, the biggest factor in last week’s trading was the EIA storage report. Crude oil stocks tumbled at the NYMEX storage hub of Cushing, Oklahoma, while distillate stocks continued to decline due to the unusually cold winter weather. Natural gas fluctuated at the start of the week and then peaked on Thursday. Bullish factors included the release of the EIA storage report which showed massive withdrawal for the week ended February 7, as well as winter storms and frigid weather that stoked heating demand across the eastern United States.
