Market Summary for the Week of August 4 - 8, 2014

Synopsis  of  Last  Week's  Energy  Markets

WTI fell significantly last week as U.S. refineries cut back on operations capacity after hitting mid-summer peaks.  On the international level, Brent saw gains early in the week but trended down on speculation that U.S. airstrikes will help stabilize the situation in Northern Iraq, increasing access to oil supplies in this region.  Natural gas prices rose every day but Thursday last week, as seasonal temperatures are expected to return for the eastern U.S., increasing cooling demand.  Last week capped the largest weekly gain for natural gas since February.
